Reading for Pleasure
We love to read widely at Derry Hill and our school reflects this. We have spent lots of time redesigning our library. It is used by each class at least once a week and at lunchtimes each day. Children enjoy spending time reading for pleasure and sharing books with friends and peers. Our library is a welcoming and comfortable space and our children have access to a range of wonderful fiction, poetry and non-fiction texts.
As well as our wonderful library, we celebrate reading across the school through bright and engaging displays and reading areas. We hold a Book Fair each year which is well attended by parents and carers.
We have 6 wonderful Reading Ambassadors who are very motivated to encourage reading throughout the school. They run competitions and are fully involved in World Book Day. They also help to keep our library looking amazing!
At Derry Hill we love celebrating World Book Day. Last year we had lots of fun, designed some book doors for our classroom and held a 'Book in a Jar' competition. We look forward to celebrating another World Book Day in March.
