About the school

Derry Hill School was founded in 1842. Since then it has been granted Aided status under the 1944 Education Act, which enables it to remain faithful to its original Church of England foundation – taking into account changing circumstances. The majority of the governors represents the Church of England.
Aided status allows the governors to appoint the staff (their educational qualifications being subject to the LEA), and therefore, to ensure that all the staff support the principles behind a Church school. These are reflected not only in the religious education and daily worship, but in the desire that Christian ideals should inform every aspect of the school’s life and should be encouraged by the example and involvement of the local Parish Church. In this way, the Christian community is privileged to further the education of many local children.

The school’s motto, “Everyone will give of their very best in the love of God” reflects the school’s aim to offer children a challenging, creative curriculum, seeking the highest standards and developing a stimulating and secure learning environment, embracing Christian understanding of everyone’s need and differences, achieved through effective communication and leadership.

We believe that Derry Hill offers a wonderful environment for children and has some fantastic facilities including a new ICT suite, library and play equipment.
